Pilates

Overview

Pilates is a method of training designed to engage the mind and condition the total body.

With over 500 exercises it combines both strength and flexibility to reduce stress and produce longer leaner muscles with the end goal being better overall posture.

Pilates keen focus on posture ensures we concentrate on strengthening the core – We refer to the core as the abs, pelvic girdle and back.

Over time, Pilates training improves strength, flexibility and balance, developing tone and building long lean muscles. Each movement challenges and develops deep abdominal muscles. Your overall functional movement develops to create new habits that prevent injury. Each class is set to reduce stress, tension and pain, along with boosting energy levels. Pilates can offer relief from back pain and joint tension. Offering an alternative to weight training and HIIT that helps minimise injury.

History

For decades, it’s been the exercise of choice for dancers and gymnasts (and now footballers, elite athletes and Hollywood actors), but it was originally used to rehabilitate bedridden or immobile patients during World War I.

These classes teach you the foundation principles of Pilates like pelvic and shoulder stability, pelvic floor and transversus abdominus activation, as well as generally strengthening the core and the hip extensor (glutes and hamstrings) complex.

This level is ideal for any healthy body who wants to do a great Pilates class but can only fit one class in a week.
